Pedro Costa / Rui Chafes : Fora out !

Pedro Costa and Rui Chafes are two artistis from Portugal who have won international acclaim in two different
areas of expression: cinema and sculpture.

In some respects a strange choice - an exhibition featuring a film maker and a sculptor - but closer examination provides a number of exchanges that strengthen the respective themes of these two participants. This catalogue documents selected works of Costa and Chafes while examining various themes through an elaborate interview held between the two artists, Catherine David and Joăo Fernandes.

"Acho que há uma ideia de vingança no início do cinema. Vingar qualquer coisa que não está muito bem, existe esse poder (…). Chaplin é alguém que vingou muitas coisas. Em cada filme ele vinga, o seu fim mesmo, o seu passado, a humanidade, ele vinga massacres sem matar ninguém, sem exercer violência, sem violar. Tentando não fazer o mesmo, existe uma possibilidade de vingança, sobretudo na ficção.”
