Jussi Kivi : fire & rescue museum, Finnish Pavilion 53rd International Art Exhibition - La Biennale di Venezia 2009
-
In 2009, the small wooden pavilion that Alvar Aalto designed for the Biennale in 1956 houses an entire museum: Jussi Kivi's "Fire and Rescue Museum". A fire brigade fan from an early age, Jussi Kivi has put together an incredible collection of fire brigade objects. A private passion since childhood, a secretly guarded treasure, not intended for public display. The fact that he is now presenting it in a museum presentation is actually due to a coincidence. The Finn recently discovered an underground Soviet army nuclear bunker in eastern Estonia. A shelter equipped with all possible aids and rescue equipment. Supposedly exactly "his topic" - but with the difference that in the event of a nuclear war there would be no rescue possible - by whatever means.
