"Since the beginning of my career, I have worked with both new technologies and the most humble materials or the more traditional. I have always concerned myself with what seems to us to be the best known and the closest. It can be a disregarded piece of cardboard, a pigeon, or the landscape out the window. I try to invite the nobility of the unspeakable in things that seem most familiar. And what is more common, apparently, than the human body? Yet our natural being is inscribed in a vast network of cultural references. It is a vertiginous chasm where the slightest variation in representation speaks meaningfully, and betrays the artist demons.
Of course, the nude is inevitably sexually connoted and always questions us deeply about what structures our lives. That is why the nude calls for philosophical meditation. In Ancient Greek Art, the symbolic nakedness of the figures transports them in the poetic world of myths and in the idea of truth. Truth (Aletheia, in ancient Greek) knows neither oblivion nor death."
