BeschrijvingThe following artworks were produces for the 150th anniversary of the Paris Commune. These are given to the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten en the International Institute of Social History, both of whom provides support for this project in 2020 and 2021.
1. A Bundle of Silences (matches, flag and debris)
- One (1) custom-made box of red matches, self-assembled and stamped in black ink with the date '1871' by the artists.
- One (1) small hand-made red flag (30 cm x 22 cm). Made with sewing assistance from Makram Tewfiek.
- Two (2) postcards showing a historic photograph of the Vendôme Column in ruins taken by Franck (Francois Marie Louis Alexandre Gobinet de Villecholes) in 1871 (held at the Metropolitan Museum, accession number 53.704.8). Postcard design and printing made by Current Matters (Nicolas Leuba and Nicolas Bolay).

2. A Bundle of Silences (Red Flag)
- One (1) handmade replica of a red flag from the IISG collection (catalogue number IISG BG P1/227). Made with sewing assistance from Makram Tewfiek.
Edition of 4 - one (1) flag given each to the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten and the International Institute of Social History (+ 2 AP)
3. A Bundle of Silences (Mietes - Morsels - Migajas)
- One (1) silver gelatin print of breadcrumbs allegedly related to the Paris Commune held at the International Institute of Social History (catalogue number IISG BG K21/753). Taken with a pinhole camera from Auguste-Adolphe Bertsch held at the Rijksmuseum Boerhaave in Leiden (reference number V28902). Made with camera assistance from Paul Steenhorst (former head of the depot, Rijksmuseum Boerhaave) and photograph development assistance Peter Svenson (Amsterdam Analogical Photoprinting, AAP-Lab)
Edition of 5 - one (1) photograph given each to the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten, the International Institute of Social History, and the Rijksmuseum Boerhaave (+ 2 AP)
4. A Bundle of Silences (1871) - Short film and sound piece (distributed for free online)
- One (1) USB Key with:
* One (1) short film (03:27 min) shot in the storage area of the International Institute for Social History featuring the aforementioned original red flag (catalogue number IISG BG P1/227). Made with acting assistance from Rose Spijkerman and Marien van der Heijden, support staff and head of Collection Development respectively, International Institute for Social History. Camera assistance by Cees Hartman (Hartman Videoproducties) and video editing assistance by Rodrigo Ramos Estrada. Premiered at the opening of the 2021 European Social Science History Conference in Amsterdam, International Institute for Social History.
* One (1) sound piece (03:17 min) made with two 15-note hand-crank Kikkerland music boxes featuring the worker's anthem L'Internationale. Recording and sound editing assistance by Sergio González Cuervo.
