Catalina González y Carlos Rivera : la poética del residuo
-
Curator Alejandra Villasmil proposes a dialogue between the work of both artists, whose meanings emerged in conversations about the process with the aim of finding a common thread. After several attempts to find the best methodology to relate the work of each one, eight concepts were established that wander through each production: Residue, Territory, Memory, Bodies, Darkness, Presence/absence, Threat and Spatiality.
The notion of residue begins to appear as the most notable axis in both works. Carlos works with urban waste or with tools that are at hand in his workshop. Part of the material is obtained by traveling to the city, collecting objects that were discarded or whose use is no longer valid, to then exalt their significant value and turn them into relics. For her part, Catalina turns to industrial waste, in her case, from mining, under the slogan of the residual and the ruin of architectural constructions. In her works, the artist captures the violent gesture of industrial waste and how it affects the landscape in different dimensions.
