Nynke Schepers : 'mijn werken zijn mijn biografie'
-
Sculptor Nynke Schepers (1935) received her training in the 1950s at the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam. With her figurative plastic work she initially built on the style and technique that her teachers Piet Esser and Paul Grégoire taught her. Over the years she experimented more and developed a subdued, sometimes almost minimalist style.
This book will also be a pleasant surprise for those who are already familiar with the sculptural work of Nynke Schepers, because it also brings attention to her hitherto little-known drawings. These portraits, landscapes and cityscapes range from sensitive, monochrome pencil or charcoal sketches to powerful colorful pastels.
Schepers' oeuvre and life story are inextricably linked. With images, reliefs, medals and drawings she makes visible what she experiences and what is going on inside her. She often finds inspiration in the immediate environment. A human attitude or expression can move her, but also a dead bird or falling feather. The interweaving of life and work is the common thread of this book.
