John Heartfield : fotografie plus dynamiet
-
Showing the truth, presenting the facts, 'pushing the lie on his face'. For example, in a 1967 interview the graphic artist, animation artist and set designer John Heartfield described the purpose of his political photo montages. His visual satire aims to denounce, clarify and expose. It is a tool in the political struggle. Heartfield built on the power of the image. He was convinced that 'with the photograph one could very simply show the events, the truth, the facts'. In his words you can sense the anger and the creative energy to go into battle with photo, scissors, brush and glue. His way of working in particular becomes clear: choosing the artistic, cutting out and assembling. His works reached an audience of millions and are now classics of political art.
