Graaschoreografieën / Grazing choreographies
-
This book takes the visitor on a journey through two landscapes: Groningen’s flat land near Feerwerd and the mountainous Swiss Engadin area. The artist duo PolakVanBekkum drew outdoors at both locations in the summer of 2019. This time the duo’s fascination for routes and mobility patterns focused on grazing patterns of cows. What kind of space and landscape do cows produce with their grazing movements?
Whereas in the past, the artists often used GPS to record movement patterns, this time they worked analog: with watercolor pencil on paper, with a self-developed field easel and working method. In this way, they worked as a kind of human GPS, from a bird’s eye view. Visitors follow this daily fieldwork in which the artists patiently and carefully observe and record the grazing cattle’s movements. On the back of each drawing, the artists wrote the circumstances, experiences, and inspirations of each expedition. Each drawing has its own story.
