avant-garde in Russia 1910-1930 : new perspectives
-
The avant-garde culture that flourished in Russia immediately before and after the revolution of 1917 generated one of the great art movements of the twentieth century. The Russian avant-garde achieved breakthroughs in painting, sculpture, theater, film, photography, literature, design, and architecture. It involved a way of thinking that encouraged tremendous experimentation and that was linked strongly to socio-political issues. The two decades (1910-1930) encompass the growth and maturation of the Russian avant-garde and its waning by the end of the 1920s.
