Natalia Goncharova : the Russian years
-
This is the most comprehensive catalogue of the works of Natalia Goncharova's Russian period. Goncharova (1881-1962) was one of the leading figures of the Russian avant-garde before the revolution. Like her lifelong partner and confederate Mikhail Larionov, her work underwent a complex development, from Impressionism, Post-Impressionism through variations of Cubism and Fauvism to Futurism and Neo-Primistism. Leaving Russia in 1915, she settled in Paris and created landscapes, portraits, genre scenes as well as sets and costumes for the theatre. This album reproduces four hundred works from museums, galleries and private collections of Goncharova's Russian period. The book is accompanied by articles and an appendix, a list of the artist's works, an archive section of texts on Goncharova and her contemporaries, photographs and a chronicle of her life.
