Ubiquitous trash : Hong Kong edition
-
The art-based research series depicts the social life of the strange abndoned objects we call trash. The series is designed to develop and activate an archive of global trash taxonomy. Trash is everywhere, all the time. We do not cease to produce it, and it does not desappear. In each piece of refure a gesture is left that allows us to gain insight into human culture. Combinations of numerous carefully considered trash attributes collectively begin to form an extraordinary and valuable social portait that transcends the nationalities and cultures that create them. Trash tells us who we are, but it also reveals what we decide te leave aside -out of sight.
The Museum of Innocence of Orham Pamuk inspires our journey that begins with a book, in this case it is not a novel, but more of a botanical classification of waste from a poetical and multidisciplinary perspective. As Pamuk, our exhibit will derive from this cataloging process materialized in a book. The multidimensional unfolding of our book, rather than make use of collector items and antiquities, will use the intimate view that photography provides, as well as the objects recollected, drawing and the site-specific artistic methods we develop during our endless explorations.
