In studio : ACC - Rijksakademie dialogue and exchange 2015 - 2016

The Rijksakademie in Amsterdam and the Asia Culture Complex (ACC)* in Gwangju (KR) are joining forces for a new type of residency program. Two different types of support of the art practice are brought together, bringing the specific features of both institutions to the fore. The Rijksakademie, which has proven itself through its focus on technical, theoretical and artistic support in an international community of artists. The ACC, as a model that is currently being developed, places the research into the history and development of cultural identity at the centre of its activities. Four Rijksakademie alumni and four Asian artists participate in the ACC-Rijksakademie Dialogue and Exchange programme. The eight selected artists left earlier this month for a three-month stay at the newly opened ACC Library Park. There they will have access to archival material, documents and collections that relate to the various histories and cultures of primarily East-Asian countries. During their stay in Gwangju, the artists will be given feedback by both supervisors of the Rijksakademie and Asian professionals invited by the ACC. The four ACC artists will join the artistic community of the Rijksakademie for three months in 2016 and will be given the opportunity to translate their research into experiments or actual works. The ACC advisors are invited to visit the Rijksakademie as guest advisors. The pilot project will run for three years and will be evaluated on a yearly basis.
