Glad that things don't talk
-
This accompanying publication of the exhibition 'Glad that things don’t talk', curated by British critic and curator Adrian Searle, marks the final year of the long-term loan of the Weltkunst Collection of British Art of the 1980s and 90s to IMMA. Taking its title from a sculpture by Richard Wentworth, 'Glad that things don’t talk' is a journey around selected works from the Welkunst Collection and the New Galleries building that contains them. The premise of Searle’s installation is intriguing, being based on a selected body of work about which he has written a fictional text. The exhibition is displayed as an installation, which is intended to reveal itself gradually, hand in hand with the accompanying text. The collection focuses mainly on sculpture but also includes large-scale photoworks, video and film installations, drawings, works on paper and portfolios of prints. Artists in the exhibition are Art and Language, Eric Bainbridge, Antony Gormley, Michael Landy, Richard Long, Lucia Nogueria, Julian Opie, Richard Wentworth, Rachel Whiteread, Alison Wilding and Bill Woodrow.
