Moritz Ebinger : antilla
-
Antilla is a historical fantasy about a German freight ship that was sunk by its own captain at the beginning of World War II, just off the coast of Aruba´s Malmok area. The crew was picked up by Dutch Marines and sent to the internment camp on neighbouring island Bonaire. After the war, the captain returned to Aruba to recover the ship´s contents and started the first Antillean hotel in the building of his former prison: Hotel Flamingo. Or so the legend goes. Find out the true – or possibly true – story of German captain Schmidt and his crew.
A wonderful initiative of Moritz Ebinger who created and photographed underwater sculptures at the shipwreck for his art exhibition years ago. He wanted to give something back to Aruba and thought of a book for children in all the four languages spoken on the island: Papiamento, Dutch, English and Spanish. He approached Aruban author Liliana Erasmus to write the story.
