Modern Sculpture Reader

Modern Sculpture Reader offers a wide variety of different modes of writing, from the rigorously theoretical to the experimental and the poetic. The presentation is chronological, with the texts grouped under four headings- ‘Nineteenth-century inheritance’, ‘Modernism and anti-modernism’, ‘The new sculpture and the anti-sculptural’ and ‘Post-modernity: the negation and presence of the sculptural’.

Each text is introduced by a critical commentary on its author and the context in which he or she was writing, and the volume is prefaced by an introductory essay on ‘The idea of modern sculpture’ by Alex Potts.
