Forms from the earth : 1000 years of pottery in America
-
The history of ceramics in the United States begins with the American Indian, whose work, expressive of his social customs and ideals as well as utilarian needs, is perhaps closest in its sources to the work of our day. During the past 30 years there has been in the U.S. a vigorous developemtn in the field of ceramics. The contemporary designer-craftsman has found clay an excellent medium for expressing, experimenting and exploring the new directions taken by his ideas of form, color and texture.
